Course breakdown

Saving Sabah’s Sharks

Shark are apex predators that have been on this Earth for over 400 million years – a predator that, through the media and our deep-seated fears, has been systematically hunted throughout the world’s oceans, pushing many species close to extinction. Over the course of two presentations you will be introduced to the amazing biology of sharks and rays, the threats to their survival and conservation measures being adopted to save these incredible animals.

Shark surveys

Upon completing the presentations you will carry out two underwater surveys around Mabul/Kapalai during which you will document the species you encounter. Collecting data from these sites is an important step in developing conservation strategies for these species.
