World Wildlife Day @ Scuba Junkie Mabul
Mar 3 – Mar 4 all-day

To celebrate World Wildlife Day 2018 we have organised a day of reef and beach clean-ups, as well as our 2-day Fish ID workshop. During this workshop participants learn how to identify different species of fish and invertebrates, fascinating behaviour and conservation issues, as well as tips and tricks to help people become better at finding macro life.

During the second day we will also have our weekly plastic-free community market where the local community sell sustainable handicrafts, burgers, fried banana and coconuts. Handicrafts include decorative coconut bowls and handwoven pandan mats, bags, purses and bracelets. Plastic bags, plastic straws and souvenirs sourced from the ocean are not permitted. This project is part of our ongoing Pulauku rumahku (My Island, My Home) initiative.

United Nations World Wildlife Day is an annual global event aimed at raising awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. This years theme is ‘Big cats: Predators under threat’. We may not have big cats underwater, but we do have lionfish, spiny tiger shrimp and leopard sharks!
