Core team

Khairuddin bin Riman (Kai)

Originally from Ranau, Kai moved to Semporna to gain office experience with Scuba Junkie. After trying diving for the first time he quickly fell in love with the ocean and set his sights on becoming a PADI Divemaster. He has gone on to become a PADI Instructor and Dive Shop Manager at SJ’s Mabul Beach Resort where his passion for marine conservation is infectious – whether he is talking to his dive students or speaking to local school students during outreach programmes. Kai sets the bar high and leads by example making him a fantastic Chairman for our organisation.

David McCann (Dave)

Dave hails from Ireland, where he gained his BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and MSc in Environmental Management & Conservation Biology at Queen’s University Belfast. He worked as a Policy and Research Officer for NI Environment Link, where he dealt with a wide range of issues, including climate change and sustainable development, before leaving in search of hands-on marine conservation opportunities – a journey that led him to us. Dave is passionate about raising awareness of marine conservation issues, as well as developing and implementing solutions. His passion for getting everyone involved led to the establishment of our annual SEAS ‘Shark Week’ and ‘Turtle Week’ in 2014.
